Surrendering
your cat
Intake is currently paused as we focus on our construction project. Please check out other local shelters for help surrendering your cat.
Ideally, any cat you would like to surrender to Gifford should be:
-
Spayed/neutered
-
Up-to-date on rabies and distemper (FVRCP) vaccines
-
Tested for FeLV and FIV. We are not able to accept cats who have tested positive for FeLV, but may be able to take a cat with FIV
-
Treated with a de-wormer and for fleas
-
Accompanied by medical records from a veterinarian showing that the cat is in good health, free of any contagious diseases, and documenting vaccinations, tests, surgeries, etc.
If you have questions regarding the above surrender requirements, please email us.
Gifford is a small, non-profit shelter and our ability to take in cats is limited.
We review every application on a case-by-case basis. If you need to place a cat quickly, we encourage you to contact multiple shelters simultaneously. Please find below a list of other shelters in the area that may be able to help you. Note that this list does not indicate whether a shelter or rescue organization is "no kill."
