How does Gifford's adoption process work?
Our adoption team counselors care for our cats daily and get to know each one as an individual. Our adoption process is designed to be calm and thoughtful, creating a more personalized experience for both you and the cats in our care.
All adoptions are by appointment only
for approved adopters.
To ensure a quiet, low-stress environment, we limit appointments to two per hour, allowing you to receive the full attention, experience, and knowledge of the adoption counselor assisting you. These one-on-one visits help reduce stress for the cats and give our counselors the time to thoughtfully guide you toward the best match.
Your application must be complete and approved before scheduling a visit. Once approved, a member of our team will contact you directly via email to set up an individual appointment to meet cats at the shelter.
Please check your email regularly for communication from our team. The waiting period for an appointment may vary depending on the cats currently in our care and the number of approved adopters. All emails will come from: adoptions@giffordcatshelter.org.
What does the adoption fee include?
Spay or neuter surgery
Rabies vaccination & certificate
Copy of cat’s medical records
FVRCP vaccines (age appropriate at the time of adoption)
Flea treatment or preventative
Code for 1 month of free Trupanion Pet Insurance (if activated within 24 hours of adopting)
Testing for Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) & Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)
Adoption counseling & take home information
Our adoption fees reflect only a portion of the charges we incur for their care, especially as no-kill shelter. By paying the non-refundable adoption fee you are helping us defray a portion of these costs.
What kind of support does
Gifford offer post-adoption?
We support you during and after adoption.
In addition to helping you find your forever friend, we also offer behavior support to all Gifford adopters, whether you adopted yesterday, or 15 years ago.
Once a Gifford cat, always a Gifford cat.
