Shelter Attendant

Full- and Part-Time Opportunities

$18–$20/hour

Are you a cat lover who’s interested in a full- or part-time position caring for homeless cats?

The Cat Care Attendant is responsible for providing hands-on daily care to Gifford's cats and helping maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming shelter environment. This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable with physical work, enjoys working directly with animals, and can recognize and communicate changes in their health or behavior.

Major Responsibilities
  • Prepare food, feed and provide water, clean and disinfect cat areas, wash litter boxes, tools, and dishes, sweep and mop floors, and clean debris from walls, beds, and other areas.

  • Monitor healthy, sick, quarantined, and injured cats for unusual physical or behavioral conditions; communicate concerns to the shelter manager and act upon feedback.

  • Medicate or assist with medication of cats as directed by the shelter's veterinarian or shelter manager.

  • Receive cats admitted for shelter care and properly identify and release animals to their owners as directed by the shelter manager.

  • Complete records and forms, including medical sheets, controlled-medication logs, and task lists.

  • Restock supplies throughout the building and notify management of low inventory.

  • Work alongside and guide volunteers, providing tips and knowledge as needed.

  • Observe animals, assist with basic care, note behavioral issues, and coordinate with veterinary staff.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A genuine passion for cats.

  • Ability to work in a physical environment involving constant movement, lifting, and cleaning.

  • Ability to care for both healthy and sick cats.

  • Ability to lift, move, or carry cats or objects weighing up to 40 lbs.

  • Full- and part-time availability, with a minimum of 3–4 shifts per week, including at least one weekend shift.

  • Driver's license required.

  • Ability to work some mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Gifford is staffed 365 days a year.

Shelter Operations Coordinator

Full-Time Opportunity

Are you interested in a full-time opportunity that impacts the lives of homeless cats?

Gifford Cat Shelter is seeking a hands-on Shelter Operations Coordinator to help oversee the daily operations of its free-roam, no-kill cat shelter. This role combines operations, volunteer coordination, adoptions, and direct animal care to ensure that cats receive exceptional care and that visitors, adopters, volunteers, and community members have a positive experience.

Gifford is looking for someone who is organized, adaptable, eager to learn, and willing to roll up their sleeves. Previous animal care experience is a plus, but candidates with transferable operations or customer-facing experience who are passionate about Gifford's mission are encouraged to apply.

Major Responsibilities
  • Assist in the management of day-to-day shelter operations.

  • Support and coordinate operations across adoptions, volunteer engagement, foster coordination, medical and behavioral care, facilities, fundraising, marketing, intake, technology, and inventory management.

  • Perform daily cat care duties, including feeding and providing water, cleaning and disinfecting cat areas, washing litter boxes, tools, and dishes, sweeping and mopping floors, and cleaning debris from walls, beds, and other areas.

  • Monitor healthy, sick, quarantined, and injured cats for unusual physical or behavioral conditions; communicate concerns to the shelter manager and act upon feedback.

  • Medicate or assist with medication of cats as directed by the shelter's veterinarian or shelter manager.

  • Interface politely and professionally with people visiting the shelter.

  • Screen adoption applicants, match cats with potential owners, and introduce cats to the public while providing information about pet-owner responsibilities, spaying and neutering, vaccinations, and adoptions.

  • Collect donations and adoption fees.

  • Receive cats admitted for shelter care and properly identify and release animals to their owners as directed by the Shelter Manager.

  • Complete records and forms, including medical sheets, controlled-medication logs, and task lists.

  • Restock supplies throughout the building and notify management of low inventory.

  • Work alongside and guide volunteers, providing tips and knowledge as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A genuine passion for cats.

  • Several years of experience in operations, volunteer coordination, customer service, nonprofit administration, hospitality, veterinary care, animal welfare, or another role requiring strong organization, multitasking, and people management.

  • Highly organized, driven, and detail-oriented.

  • Strong customer service and client-facing skills.

  • Ability to lift, move, or carry cats or objects weighing up to 40 lbs.

  • Ability to work one weekend day per week. Gifford is staffed 365 days a year.

Development Coordinator

Full- or Part-Time | Hybrid Opportunity

Are you interested in an administrative and development opportunity supporting the work of Gifford Cat Shelter?

Gifford Cat Shelter is seeking a Development Coordinator to support the day-to-day administrative needs and operational aspects of its fundraising efforts. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented administrative professional who can help maintain a comprehensive annual fundraising plan, support data and CRM operations, and assist in executing multi-channel fundraising campaigns.

This is a back-office role, supporting the Shelter Director and Board Members who handle donor-facing responsibilities. The position is hybrid.

Major Responsibilities

Fundraising & Campaign Operations

  • Track fundraising goals, segmentation strategies, timelines, and revenue projections.

  • Maintain campaign and communications calendars, including monthly and quarterly revenue forecasts.

  • Coordinate appeal production, email fundraising campaigns, and recurring giving programs.

  • Support donor stewardship activities, including communications, recognition, and event follow-up.

  • Help maintain digital fundraising channels and fundraising-related web content.

  • Conduct prospect research to identify donor upgrade opportunities.

  • Assist with event logistics, including registration, ticketing, and post-event reporting.

Data & CRM Management

  • Maintain donor data integrity and CRM records and generate timely reports and dashboards.

  • Process gift entry and acknowledgments and assist with gift reconciliation with finance.

  • Support systems, processes, and vendor relationships related to fundraising operations.

Grants Administration

  • Provide administrative support for grant application processes and reporting.

General Administrative Support

  • Schedule and coordinate internal and external meetings, including preparing agendas and taking minutes.

  • Handle incoming communications by email, phone, and mail and route inquiries to the appropriate team members.

  • Prepare and format internal reports, presentations, and briefing materials for the Executive Director and Board.

  • Maintain office supplies and coordinate with vendors for general administrative needs.

  • Assist with onboarding volunteers and new staff, including orientation logistics and document preparation.

  • Support compliance and record-keeping requirements, including document retention policies.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of professional administrative experience; experience in development operations or fundraising support is a plus.

  • Comfortable working with CRMs, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and video conferencing tools.

  • Bloomerang experience highly preferred.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Experience working with small to mid-size nonprofits is a plus.
