How does Gifford's adoption process work?

Our adoption team counselors care for our cats here at the shelter on a daily basis and get to know each cat individually. Our process is carefully designed for matching each approved adopter’s unique application with a specific cat in our care.

Our adoptions are by appointment for approved adopters. Your application must be complete and approved before we start matching cats to you. Once approved, a member of our team will reach out to you directly via email to schedule a time to meet the cat(s) that our adoption counselor matched you with. Please check your email often for a potential invitation to our shelter. The waiting period for a meet and greet can vary due to what cats we have in care and where you are on our approved adopter list. We will email you from the following email address: giffordcats@giffordcatshelter.org.

What does the adoption fee include?

Spay or neuter surgery

Rabies vaccination & certificate

Copy of cat’s medical records

FVRCP vaccines (age appropriate at the time of adoption)

Flea treatment or preventative

Code for 1 month of free Trupanion Pet Insurance (if activated within 24 hours of adopting)

Testing for Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) & Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)

Adoption counseling & take home information

Our adoption fees reflect only a portion of the charges we incur for their care, especially as no-kill shelter. By paying the non-refundable adoption fee you are helping us defray a portion of these costs.
